Sr. Mary Alma McManus, RDC, a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on March 2, 2016.
Sr. Alma was born in New York City in 1934, the daughter of Joseph and Florence McManus. She attended Our Lady of the Assumption School, Villa Maria High School and received her BA from Good Counsel College, and an MA from Fairfield University. In her early ministry, Sister served as an elementary school teacher, and principal of Our Lady of Sorrows School. After receiving her PhD in Counseling from Fordham University, Sr. Alma became a professor at Pace University and also served in congregational leadership.

Sister Carol Wagner, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, “Sr. Alma was an educator, and mentor whose life, ministry and gift of compassion embraced so many students and families for so many years! We will miss her deeply, but carry on her legacy and love of children as sister and friend!”

Sister Alma is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her nieces, Kathleen (Patrick) Power, Brigid (Robert) Jillette, Ann Doherty as well as by her sister Eileen(Frank) Edwards, their children Eileen, John and Kathy Anne, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Joan and Catherine.
