Sr. Margaret Keogan, RDC, (formerly known as Sr. Mary Beatrice) a Sister of the Divine Compassion, died peacefully on April 28, 2020.

Sr. Margaret was born in New York in 1933, the daughter of John and Bridget (Leonard) Keogan.  She attended Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School in Port Chester, NY and Good Counsel High School in White Plains, NY.  Sister received her BA in English from Good Counsel College in White Plains.

Sister began her career in education at St. Bernard’s School in White Plains. In 1962 Sister was transferred to Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Elmsford where she spent many happy years until her retirement.

Sister Laura Donovan, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion said, “A talented and loving Catholic elementary school teacher, Sister Margaret shared her compassionate heart with her students and their families. She is remembered by all the student athletes who appreciated Sister Margaret’s (Beatrice) presence and support at all their elementary and high school basketball games.”

Sister is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion, her dear sister, Patricia Almstead, and her husband, Howard; her nephew John Almstead, and her nieces Bridgette Gavioli, Christine Leverich and Katie Rocco as well as many cousins and friends. Sister was predeceased by her sister, Sr. Catherine Keogan, RDC and her brother, John Keogan.
