Listening for Snow

by Alice Feeley, RDC

In the playground bouncing basketball.

Black haired girl, not quite teen,

is getting in her practice just before a storm.

Foul shot rhythms like a metronome

tick away the minutes of her passage from child’s play.

And overhead clouds hang low gray and stuffed with snow,

aching to let fall a soundless cover over all.
