Sr. M. Doretta Cornell has been chosen to receive the 2017 Peace and Justice Award from the UN NGO Partnership for Global Justice and Peace. The RDC Leadership Team was delighted to receive this news from Kathleen Nolan, OP, Chairperson of the NGO Board! A few excerpts from Sr. Nolan’s letter: “The Board of the Partnership for Global Justice has unanimously voted to award Sister Doretta Cornell, R.D.C., the 2017 Peace and Justice Award. Sister Doretta exemplifies the spirit and mission of the Partnership through her lifelong commitment to working for justice and peace….she models for all of us what as St. Catherine of Siena so aptly said: ‘Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.’ Sister Doretta has set the world on fire with her passion, dedication and perseverance to create a more just and peaceful world.”
The focus of the award this year was the environment and so, how appropriate that Doretta has been recognized for her decades-long advocacy for Mother Earth! Doretta will receive the award in October at the Partnership conference in Michigan.
