Sr. Mary Virginia Brady, RDC (Joan Brady) died peacefully on August 29, 2013.
Sr. Mary Virginia was born in the Bronx July 2, 1929, the daughter of Edward Brady and Evelyn Schirmer Brady. She attended Catholic schools in the Bronx and Connecticut. Sister received her Bachelor’s degree from Good Counsel College and a Master’s degree from Seton Hall University. She continued her education at Boston College receiving CAES certification.
Sister entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1948. She served as an elementary school teacher and was principal of Good Counsel Academy Elementary School in White Plains and Holy Name of Jesus School in Valhalla. For many years Sister served as Director of Pastoral Care at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains.
Sister Carol Wagner, President of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, said,”Sister Mary Virginia was throughout her years in our congregation a woman of deep faith, gentle humor and, more importantly, a compassionate presence to those with whom she came in contact beginning with her years as an educator and continuing as Director of Pastoral Care at St. Agnes Hospital. Her quiet, gentle presence will be missed by the Sisters of the Divine Compassion and her extended family.”
Sister Mary Virginia is survived by her Sisters of the Divine Compassion and her nieces, Patricia Brady, Maureen Brady Sheridan, Kathleen Brady Carboni and her nephews, Edward and Kevin Brady. She also has many grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Sister Mary Teresa, RDC and her brother, Edward Brady.
